MicronArt gone?

MicronArt produces (or used to?) produce some really nice brass photo-etched kits.  Like that fire engine Drasko likes so much. 



I just went to check out their website ( http://www.micronart.com/ ) and it seems to be gone.  Walthers also seems to be out of stock on the MicroArt items I  checked. Does anybody know if Reynard closed his business?

Wow!  I guess it's been a while since I visited that website. And the business didn't get taken over by someone else?  I hate losing good N scale resource (just like we lost TrainCat).  Do you know whether Reynard just retired, or something bad happened?

There's still quite a bit of stock showing up on the auction sites.  I got a couple of the Model T sedans a few weeks ago.

I am kind of surprised that the drawings and artwork for etching weren't sold to another vendor as that's the value here and you don't have to make enormous inventory runs on this stuff like plastic injection molding.

I agree.  But similar thing happened with TrainCat artwork - although we really don't really know if Bob will ever want to restart the business. He probably doesn't know himself.

Reynard's wife mentioned that he has some health challenges, closed the business down and she is selling off inventory on Ebay:

I can't resist a good deal and have been snatching up quite a bit.
I have also tried to spread the word about the availability of these finely detailed kits.

Hopefully, we will see TrainCat again. More well designed etched kits.

That's a shame to hear - it is tough for N scale to lose good producers.  I keep holding out hope that Traincat's double-track Pratt Thru Truss bridge becomes available some how - they are a near perfect match for the 1894 bridge that crosses the Potomac at Harpers Ferry, and I would need three of them!
