Reaming a Kato Mikado worm adapter

I just did the grinding on the shaft with my dremel, it worked well.  I just grinded off a little at a time and kept measuring until I got to 1.5 mm.  I put the plastic adapter on the shaft, and it appears to turn evenly and centered under power.

I have to grind some of the frame to fit the motor in the cavity, and my good Dremel cutting bit I broke last week.  So I will have to swing by Lowes and pick up a couple of new bits, grind the frame, and then test the motor in the loco.

Of the two options (grinding the shaft or trying to ream the plastic adapter), for me grinding the shaft was a lot easier to do.

Glad you got it done Mike. Working on getting some cut down by another source until I can get it worked out, so a couple more ready soon.

@mike_lawyer and @metalworkertom  I made a couple of confusing posts recently (really, just a couple) that referenced sending parts that needed bored or cutting down some gearheads, with a purchase of a couple of cars.  I had these two issues merged into one in my mind and was answering them that way.  If it added confusion, I apologize.  Meanwhile, the offer to help with these fitting issues would have been offered to both of you just the same. 

It's not that I'm looking for projects at all but I'm sympathetic to the problems that these seemingly small issues present in a project.  Because of the existing machine tools I have as well as the range of tooling in these sizes, jobs such as fitting things to shafts where the proper function of the part requires precision, whether bored, sleeved, or whatever, is relatively easy for me to do.  I guess what I'm suggesting to all is, don't let these little things get in the way of finishing a really neat project.  If the problem arises send a PM and we'll see if it's something we can get sorted.
