I would advise not trying to use any glossy paint on model vehicles. Gloss (and metallic luster) do not scale well. A good way to think of this is to look at real cars from a distance of 1/4 to 1/2 miles, which is the average distance we see the layout from. At these distances, the atmosphere deadens the reflections on gloss surfaces. Paints are particularly affected, but this is why hills look duller and gray from a distance.
Since we can not scale atmospheric refraction, we need to "build" it into our models. I use gloss for very few things: glass, water and headlight lenses. All three have additional properties that enhance light refraction, and thus look "brighter" from a distance.
