Kato 2-8-2 rear tender truck

Does anyone know where I could purchase a Kato 2-8-2 rear tender truck?  Kato has discontinued this part (941041)  I think my locomotive is from one of the first runs (C&NW #425) from back in the mid-to-late 90's.  Due to a new layout under construction, I haven't been able to run trains for quite a while (about a year and a half).  When I went to pick up the engine, the rear truck practically crumbled.  I don't know what could have got on it to make the plastic do that.  It was just sitting in my old staging yard next to other locomotives.  Those seem to be fine.  Anyone ever had that happen before?

Caboose trucks can be hard to find too sometimes, but the 'shorty' cabooses they did in train sets all have them, and those darn things are everywhere and easier to find.    I use Kato caboose frames and trucks on anything that requires 8x8 pickups - sawing the frames up and splicing them to the right wheelbase, keeping the wipers, etc.    Be willing to throw a caboose body in the junk drawer if the price is right, it can join the pile I've accumulated.   The steps and end ladders on those are worth transplanting to other cabooses as well.

Luckily, Kato has some of the caboose trucks in stock, so grab them.  They don't always have them.  But be aware that the mounting hole and bolster height are not quite the same as for the tender truck.  But it should not be hard to file, shim, ream, etc, to make it work.  The key element are those phosphor bronze inserts with the "thumbs" that go up inside the tender, and the wheelsets, and that should all fit.  The side frames aren't the same either, so you might want to change both trucks so they will match.
