ScaleTrains Dash 9 and Tier 4 + aftermarket Loksound 5 tips?

So I am annoyed and feeling stupid right at the moment. I picked up some ScaleTrains N Dash 9's and an ET44AC all in DC and then got some of the ESU loksound v5 micro decoders that are the next18 form factor. I went to install them today and seemed to go well....until I try to put the shells back on. No matter what I do the decoder always seems to pop out of the socket when I start to slide the shell back on. I tried putting a small bit of electrical tape around it, but that seems to make it too wide, and didn't hold well anyway.
So is there a trick to this that I am missing? Are these too wide for the shells? Surely not...
Appreciate any help!

Take some kapton tape and wraps it around the decoder and board holding it together. Then put the shell on.

Thats what I tried with electrical tape, so I'm assuming kapton is thinner and tackier? I've never worked with the stuff before, so lack that experience. Is there good an bad brands of it, or is it all pretty much the same?

Kapton (sp?) is very thin tape. I purchased off Amazon a roll and it will more than outlast me.
Also did you get the decoders that have the clear heat shrink tubing on them, if so you should remove it.

Something I noticed on Scaletrains factory install what looks like small pieces of foam being used to sandwich between the decoder and the frame along with the tape.

Yeah, I removed the heatshrink. I didn't even realize I ordered the ones with wires, so was extra surprised to see that.
Thats a good call on squeezing a little foam block in there, ill give that a shot, too. Appreciate the info!
