 Do you think this could trickle down for us model rr's? LOL
 I have been on LIRR trains that have slid a few cars past the end of platforms.

The Rio Grande on Cumbres Pass used to have that problem as well, plus, at certain times, hordes of caterpillars.  Those things are really slick when squished.
