Windows and Doors

I have started scratch building in earnest, but am having a hard time finding windows and doors.  I have some from Tichy Train Group and some from RS Laser Kits, but are there other good suppliers out there, or anyone who produces 3D printed windows and doors?  I'm just not thrilled with what I have found so far.  Any suggestions?  Bob

Tichy offers a pretty wide variety.  What are you looking for specifically that you've been unable to find?

In terms of figuring out what's out there- you might just do a search at Walthers- while it won't have everything, it will have most of what is currently available.  Also take a look at windows available in other scales.  Granted, the mullions might be too thick, but that is also true of 90% of the N scale building kits out there.

And keep an eye peeled for sales on kits that have a lot of windows, or a box a scrap modular parts at a train show.

And a good source for double hung masonary windows (that is, a double hung window for brick buildings) are the DPM modulars- the 2 story with windows (601-22) includes a total of 3 dozen windows- and the cost of the modular pack is less than the cost of 3 packs (doz ea) of Tichy windows. And you get the various wall and column parts "free" to use for something else.

I gave up rivet counting when I couldn't see an N scale rivet anymore.

Thanks guys - I didn't know about the DPM modulars - I'll check this out, and also Walthers.

Grandt Line used to do some really nice stuff in N scale. I understand that Grandt Line was sold to San Jaun Car Company and I'm sure what their current availability might be. Your LHS might still have some of their stuff. In my opinion the Grandt Line product had finer detail than Tichy. If you really work at it you can modify these products by adding or removing mullions, or enlarging or reducing their size to suit your needs. I've done this and then resin cast the product for multiple copies. But 3D printing would be the way to go...

Agreed Geoff.
I've got a pretty big hoard of the Grandt Line parts but it's been my understanding that they hadn't any plan to release these N Scale parts again.
Never say Never, I guess.

Plastruct makes a few doors and windows, although they're nowhere near as nice as the ones from Tichy and Grandt Line.

I spent some time looking for a few Grandt Line items recently, and although there are many etailers that say they have them, when it comes right down to it they really don't. So, supplies are drying up fast. Hopefully SJCC will be making them available again.

These guys have some windows and doors in their catalog along with being a cool source for vehicles too, they did change around the index and online catalog so I'm still getting used to it.  They ship reasonably and things usually cross the pond in good time.

If you see it, get it, for tomorrow it may be gone!

We have laser cut windows and doors also and can do custom sizes also. Just need a sketch(hand drawn even works if need be)  and sizes to do them.
See the scratch building page on our web site .

I must have missed your scratch building page - I bought some of your windows, doors and steps.  Thanks for pointing out this additional option!
