issue with Walthers 130' turntable

I've had the 130' turntable about 4 years and it has worked fine. Today i go about my normal business and wanted to move it to stall 23. I noticed the controller would only go to #3. I tried again but it only goes 1,2,3   1,2,3 or 3,2,1, never any higher then 3 but the table did turn all the way to track 23 even though it wouldn't let me enter that number.   I tried to calibrate it and it does return home but it does the same thing once i try to put in a track number. Do we know if I will have to reset it and start setting all of my 47 tracks all over again ?

Hummmm, no replies. Does not anyone has this common turntable.  Anyway I fixed the issue. It took two tries at the reset button.  However that means I had to re-aline all my incoming  tracks but that's ok. Some were getting to the point that it was almost like a small amount of backlash was in the system and they would not line up proper.  While I was at it I took the table out and cleaned everything and started over from scratch. It should be good for another couple years till maybe dirty or what ever gets to it.  Was up to 11:45 and had to get up for wprk at 4:45 but what the hey it's done.

Yea i was just trying to avoid resetting all the tracks again. Was looking for another idea before doing that. It came down to re-set and clean it all.  Took about 30 min to reset 47 tracks.

Ironically I often spend more time trying to find a work around than I would if I just have jumped in head first at the beginning. Lol.

I will purchase a plastic cake dish with the big cover. that will fit perfect over it while not running the system. Keep the dust off.

Is that the pre-DCC version?  If so, be vewy vewy careful not to short out the controller. 

I can't remember what the circumstances were surrounding the failure of mine, but Mr. and Mrs. Walthers don't bother to follow up on the shenanigans of their wayward offspring... no parts available, and no warranty to speak of.  When I contacted them they gleefully offered to direct me to a dealer where I could buy a new one (for about $300).

While that is a good idea Keith, I doubt that dust caused the original problem (the turntable controller losing its "mind").  That type of a problem is likely due to some electrical glitch or Alpha particles affecting the microcontroller's memory.

It's a DCC unit and works good. This was it's first issue in the four years i've had it but, as i mentioned it really had to be looked at due to the tracks not lining up properly anymore. Not off by much but in N just a little is enough.  I had one pit crash and a few wrong track line ups and the loco crashing into the table railing while it was turning. That can cause things to go out of line.
Still need to do the ground work and weathering in the yard. Lights etc...

The prototype had those same problems - usually because:

Someone didn't fully close the throttle, or the valve leaked (on a steam loco);
Someone parked the loco without setting the hand brake, and it rolled; or
Someone wasn't paying attention, and started moving before the table was lined and locked.
