I seem to remember MR doing an article YEARS ago on the Ashley, Drew & Northern. If memory serves, some part of it's operation included a loop.

Does it have to be N scale?  You could have more industry in Z.

There was a national chain of model train stores back in the 90's that had a circular layout displayed to capture interest.  I recall spending time at the one in Union Station Washington when I was doing lobbying work for my company. Another was in St. Louis.
