Tangent N scale 36” wheels.

I have seen very little mention of the Tanget N scale 36” wheels but I have to say I really like them. I have replaces the wheels on Athearns, ER, Atlas, MT and FVM cars that uses 36” wheels with no running issues, in fact they roll really smooth. The axle measure at .537 and they have scale tread, front and back of the wheels. So far the only cars I had issues replacing are oldest Atlas and Scaletrains cars.

I’ve installed them on over a dozen cars already. The rear profile really looks nice on tank cars (where it is more noticeable). They roll really well and look great.

Don’t forget their cut levers. They are easy to install and add a little something to the car end.

I'm curious what your thoughts are on the look of these at 36" with the flanges? I remember your blog post about the Wheel Dilemma of the FVM 33" and 36" wheels. Even though the 33" were too small, the overall look with the flange matched the overall prototype size pretty well.

I saw this thread and decided it was worth a shot to see if they would improve the operation of my reefer train - see https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=46088.0

Tangent's service was super, and the wheels are beautiful - in fact they match the original BLMA wheels nearly perfectly according to my eyes and micrometer.

But that also means they won't work in my application.  (Again, see the above referenced thread.)

The 36” wheel flange on the BLMA and Tangent wheels measures in at a scale 40.5” which is within reason for a prototypical new 36” wheel. The flange is only 1.5 N Scale inches too big. I can live with that in exchange for the rear profile detail.
