I thought about buying the GN combination-door boxcar, road #18337, until I checked the prototype.

The paint and lettering is suitable for an 18000-series boxcar, and may be correct for the 18337.  The problem is that GN 18337 was a 12-panel, 10' inside height, single door boxcar, one of the prototypes for the Intermountain 12-panel cars.

GN 40 ft combination-door cars were in various 11000, 12000, and 13000 series.  MT modeled these years ago in Vermilion Red, which many received when they were built.

Those covers are going to be pretty much useless if they don't fit a correctly-dimensioned 52' gondola.

@Shipsure Any updates on the Virginian double window coaches, baggage-RPO, and business cars?

nothing yet...they have been submitted but I haven't heard anything.  I'll check during our roadmap meeting.

Love the Rail Box/CSX combo repaint, as it really has a neat look, and had to look around at many vendors to actually secure one.  If there is any doubt that a great pre-weathered car (some with graffiti, or even just Athearns "primed for grime" would be big sellers, I think MT has set the tone for the market.

Of course, I may not be the typical modeler.  Basically, the only rolling stock I buy is the graffiti stuff to give my layout that post 2000 look, slowly but surely without breaking out the air brush and same old decals that everyone else has.  But, I feel that just as sound in locos (while it may appeal to kids) is really an attempt to upscale existing, older modelers to replace their older models w/o sound, I think weathered cars (and structures) are the next step in ready to run.

Short version, I love them, keep 'em coming!  I buy most anything, although not every box car, as post 2000 the rail fleet is now more covered hoppers, tankers, auto racks, well cars, etc. and IMHO, the offerings ought to reflect the proto fleet in car types a bit better.  Of course, if MT has more box car shells than anything sitting around, that may not fit their business model, plus, I bet modelers still buy more box cars than anything, even if their numbers are declining on the rails in the real world.

Shipsure:  OK, I'll accept that!  I wonder why the GN gave it that number?  And it is NOT a rebuilt 18000-18499 series car, as the right side only shows 5 panels, not 6. 

I see that the caption says "GN 18337 (002)".  I wonder if the original 18337 was wrecked, possibly offline, and the other road replaced it with this car?

I will order one of these!
