U18B modeling

I am seriously looking at making a P&W U18B. After looking at several photos, I noticed that the engine door access latches are centered like -7 engine doors.

Unfortunately, modeling this would be near impossible without rebuilding every panel on the engine, so I am going to match the 4 tall engine door latches to the rest of the body. Right now my plan is to use as many parts on hand as possible:

U23B for walkway, cab, radiator section and short access doors. U25B for the group of 4 tall access doors.

RS1 chassis, though I'm wondering if a shaved down RS3 chassis might work (I have one in hand).

If you want to make an accurate one, this is hard.
This is the phase 2 with the centered door latches- as you said.

One way:

Kato C30-7 body cut down.- gives the correct doors, latches, and roof.  Trim same as my article said.
Kato U30C radiator section.- give correct radiator section.
Kato U30C fuel tank chopped down.

Atlas U23B walkway WITH anticlimber (essentially, the conrail version if I recall).
The Atlas U23 nose and cab would probably work best too for best cab to walkway fitting.



I thought about making one of these once, but never did.

By the way, has ditch lights on front and back if you go with a year later than this photo.



Another interesting thing about this one is that they changed the trucks at one point.  SO you have two options.
