C&O Progress

Hey, if I were going to be a C&O 50' double door boxcar with the Progress logo on me for Holloween, what color would I be?     Raging debate, black or dark blue?  I know I should know this but...it's friday.   If you have a color ref if its blue that would be helpful.

I think it can be either depending on the car also some cars only had "For progress" on on side.

Here's an example that shows why this is so hard.

This car is black, but could be argued as dark blue.



Honestly, to be obvious, just contact the Historical Society with the car series you're looking at.  They are more than helpful.  Also, I got a ton of help on the car I posted above by asking on the STMFC.  The car above is also the one I referenced when I said not all cars had the "Progress" on both sides.  The other side of this car is just C&O.

Would the bluish grey you used on the 50' autobox work? (78070) seems close to many photos...

Black usually denoted specialized service or loading devices. With a white stripe, it was Autoloading if I remember right. Between 1957 and 1960 they experimented with yellow lettering and lines. The Blue Scheme with yellow doors and lettering started sometime in 1962 or 63.   If they had specialized loading devices, it was usually lettered as such.

Personally, I prefer the blue scheme.
