Very commonly seen in Ann Arbor RR trains. The AA's Ottawa Yard was adjacent to the Jeep plant in Toledo Ohio. The Clear Block Productions DVD "Vignettes of the Ann Arbor, Vol. 3" has a wonderful sequence toward the end - two fairly new GP-35's roll north (TimeTable west) through the village of Dundee, Michigan circa 1966. Emery Gulash shot film of the operator hooping up orders then generous parts of the following train. Lots of interesting freight cars: a MILW ribside boxcar in "Route of the Hiawathas" lettering, a Trailer Train flatcar loaded with auto frames, an American Colloid Co 50-foot RBL, a 50-foot DT&I round-roof boxcar and a trilevel auto rack (DT&I) with what looks to be a load of Mustangs. At the end of the train a string of about 25 empty LS&I ore cars rattles along (during this time period Ford experimented with shipping taconite in ore cars via the car ferries to be interchanged with the DT&I at Diann). This was during the part of the year when the ore boats weren't running. Then . . . coupled to the last ore car is an SP bilevel then an ATSF bilevel loaded with . . . JEEPS. Mostly Wagoneers but a few of the Gladiators (pick-up trucks) and even one of the Wrangler "CJ"s. After the two auto racks, the caboose rolls by with the operator hooping up orders to the rear end crew. I have gone through piles of Ann Arbor RR car ferry manifests from the late 1960's through the 1970's. Not every westbound trip had loaded auto racks aboard but it was pretty common to have one or two. And most of the time time the load is simply listed as "jeeps."
