And here was his original report, started because he was doing a piece involving his own kids, showing a photo of them on the tracks.  He got bombarded with emails/messages regarding how dangerous it was, which led him to do these reports.

Exactly.

But for some reason, it seems everyone loves the metaphorical imagery of train tracks for photography.  I really don't think that many people understand that railroad tracks are private property.  I guess they think that because highways are public, train tracks are too, and therefore they have a "right" to be on them.

Taken in 1999, this Levis commercial never aired .... for obvious reasons; Operation Lifesaver wasn't a fan.

Even at a grade crossing, entering the operating envelope of a railroad is never something that should be done lightly.

On my road we had a car roll away, down 2 miles of street running, and over several highway grade crossings. That, and crossing malfunctions where the gates fail to operate or a MOW worker has bypassed the circuit or cut the gate out without notifying the dispatcher. Even at crossings with gates, it's not bad to be extra vigilant...
