Erie Mining caboose paint

I am sure this topic will get moved, but does anyone know the original color of the Erie Mining wide vision cabeese? The only pics I can find are of the aged version which look like a combination of boxcar red, oxide red and a healthy dose of rust. And help is appreciated.

look like a combination of boxcar red, oxide red and a healthy dose of rust.

That single phrase could describe just about anything on the Iron Range!  :D

As far as I know the Erie mining cabooses were always brown. I don't think they ever wore a version of the blue and silver or the orange and olive drab that the locomotives originally wore. I checked Pat Dorin's, Frank King's, and Dave Schauer's books and there are no as delivered photo's

Here's some (admittedly late) in service shots of all of them.

After 1983 they were used primarily for crew accommodations on work trains and weren't used on the ore trains.

Perhaps if there is a book listing International Car co. cabooses there may be a roster or builders photos that can shed more light.

Don't leave out this scheme.

Dorin's "The Lake Superior Iron Ore Railroads"  does show a b/w photo of extended vision caboose #4 that is clearly not brown/red.  If I had to guess, I say it's yellow.

You just added a book to my shopping list :) I have his two later volumes, and apparently the earlier book has some material left out of the later ones...

edit: and ordered  :D

Love how a small Industrial line that only existed for 51 years had so many paint schemes  :D

A couple more caboose shots;

Dunka Junction, MN Sept. 29, 1979.

And this undated Dave Schauer photo (likely ~1980) With a caption that thickens the plot...

Erie Mining caboose No. 1 brings up the rear of a 96-car pellet train headed for Taconite Harbor. EMCO's original cabooses were bay-window but were converted to extended vision as shown here. Erie was an early adopter of EOT devices so it wouldn't be much longer after I took this shot that pellet trains would operate sans caboose.

and for good measure another RS11 in Orange and olive drab :)

The caption for the caboose in the Dorin book reads:

Quote
Recently, EMC took delivery of several caboose from International Car Corp.  The company's original cabooses were bay window cars.
