Oh finally we are getting these! Not that I need any anymore since my focus has changed. 

May still get an NS or IC, just for the hell of it though...

Now what to do with my unfinished SD70 that I was working on...?

Just in case anyone is curious, the SD70 was built for NS. Conrail (to NS specs), IC, and a Peruvian railroad (export).

The 24 Conrail units went to NS, all of these are still in service on NS (56 units, total 80 units including the Conrail units). Some are being rebuilt to AC with fat cabs).

A handful of the 40 IC units were wrecked and scrapped - but the rest still serve on CN.

I might get one and high nose it.  (it would be my first Athearn loco!)

Those 2500 series SD70's are ex-NKP 500 series SD70's- you need add a bell and nose headlight to the existing short hood!

What, no Western Pacific? 

If fantasy sells then, well, it sells, but I have to express my curiosity at the particular choice of roadnames.  Did they pick them out of a hat?   One might think, say, Southern, or N&W, or Penn Central.    I mean, if you're an SP&S fan, isn't that perhaps because you don't like six axle EMD hood units?

Cool, I was not expecting Athearn to them.  I've seen plenty of SD70s so I'm interested.

Here is an NS ex Conrail standard cab SD70 (NS 2574) I photographed today leading an empty oil train on 98 track at Wilmerding, PA on NS's ex Conrail Pittsburgh Line.  What was interesting about this move was they sent this train on 98 track, which is the track that serves NS's Pittsburgh Intermodal Terminal.  An empty oil train was sent through an intermodal yard.  And another mixed train followed this one through the yard.  NS put on a great show today.  Enjoy.

And the Conrail were the prettiest SD70's, being the only domestic units not delivered in black. Remember them well when they were on Big Blue. One thing about my experience with Conrail was that the rare units, the small fleets (SD70, SD70MAC, C32-8, C36-7, C39-8) would always seem to turn up trackside more frequently than their numbers on the roster would otherwise indicate.

The IC SD70's are used indiscriminately system wide, however the B&LE property is all IC SD70's now. Think 8 or 10 are assigned there, with the balance in the general CN road pool. Always love catching one lead on the Toronto - Montreal mainline as passing trains seems to universally rib the crew on the SD70... pride of the fleet and whatnot. Four were wrecked and scrapped in a collision down on the IC. 1006, 1013, 1014, 1023 all totaled in MS and scrapped on site during July,2005 (IC.net).
