Well after a long delay...
I am working my way through my pile of half finished projects and this is one I would like to finish. I left off last year with a post on how to resin cast, using the FGE 4145 car as the subject. You can read the thread here:

The fragile master did not survive due to undercutting on the side ladders:
Although the casting looks OK, there were a few major issues with the ladders and I ended up having to shave them all off. You can see some of the imperfections in this photo (click to enlarge). Even when shaved off, the ladder area still had imperfections.
The ladders were replaced with etched stock from Gold Medal Models. This should have been the plan from the beginning, but I thought I could save a few steps and cast everything in one piece. Live and learn.
Steps are etched BLMA parts, as will the crossover platforms. Brake wheels are Micro-Trains Ajax type. Couplers will be MTL brown 1016s.

I used 80% Testors Boxcar Red, 15% Testors Semi-Gloss and 5% Tamiya thinner.

The vast majority of these cars were painted in the Southern "Green Light" scheme, although the cars in the 1XX series appear to be painted/repainted in Claytor:
