Upgrade time!

Just ordered a Canon 80D with the money I got dog-sitting for the last two months. All those poopy kitchen cleanups were worth it! The included 18-135 USM and 55-250 will fill a few holes in my lens collection.

Should arrive Thursday afternoon. Should provide a major upgrade to my 10 year old Rebel XTi.

Whoa!  That's like going from a bicycle to a Ferrari!  Be careful, respect the power! 

I just went from a Nikon D300 to a D500, an 8 year wait.  It is night and day.

Mid last year I went from a 650D to a 6D full frame along with a 24 -70 F4 and a 70-200 F2.8 Mk11 IS USM plus a 2x extender. Boy this is sooo much better.

I had to stay with an APS-C sensor because I have several EF-S lenses that won't work on a full frame camera, or I probably would have gone for the 6D (they cost about the same).

I got to play around with it a bit over the past few days. Color on the photos is just phenomenal. I miss easy access to scene modes, and manual mode take a bit of getting used to as the settings on my Rebel were in my muscle memory. The thing is FAST. Focus is near instant and silent. Shutter has a nice deep click to it. First shot I took, I thought the camera left the shutter open as I'm used to the two part click in the Rebel. This is just one smooth motion. Live view and remote control by iPhone and computer is all wireless and very impressive.

Can't wait to try out that high ISO on some night shots.

The 18-135 is an excellent all-purpose lens.  I have this on my 70D, and honestly I rarely use anything else (I did rent a 600mm Canon L last year to use at Yellowstone for some wildlife shots; what a lens . . . but I certainly can't afford one!).

My 70D also does great video and the 80D should be even better with the new sensor; the new motorized zoom accessory for the 18-135 looks like a very worthwhile accessory - I may have to get that, because the one downside of using the 70D for video is the lack of a smooth motorized zoom.  With that accessory, I can probably ditch my Sony videocam and use the 70D for everything.
