Tie Stacks From Plastic ATLAS C-55 Ties?

I doubt that anyone has.  It's easier to build stacks from wood ties, if for no other reason than they're easier to glue.

That said, your method sounds like the way I'd do it.  Clean up the ties and start stacking.

It seems like a waste, honestly.

If you really want to DIY, I'd just go with some plain stock (either wood or styrene).

But yeah, there are some decent commercial versions out there. I do miss DKS and NZT at times like this. His were really good.

The other issue is that the ties are going to have draft angle on them.  This isn't noticeable when buried in ballast, but when you try to stack them, you'll notice the faces aren't square.  The other options presented will look best.

I've got a MT jewel case full still and a few of the switch ties left.

No, ME has quit making ties.  Kapler Mill and Lumber has N scale ties, and tie stock, but not stained ties.  http://www.kapplerusa.com/y2k/kp-main.htm

I've never bought from them, but have a few bags of their stripwood from various shops, and it seems to be good quality.

I also like their disclaimer:

Fine N Scale Products makes very nice tie stacks in resin.  If you follow their instructions for painting they come out very well.

This sounds like a made to order introductory project for someone interested in exploring resin casting.

Make up a couple of tie stacks from strip wood. Seal the stacks with a sealant so the mold rubber won't stick to the wood (I use diluted white glue), make rubber molds, cast, and paint. Within a a few days you'll have enough tie stacks for you and all your friends.

I made some stacks of 'used ties' by distressing the individual ties and impressing tie plate marks and spike holes into the ties on the tops of the stacks.
