...or, maybe I just got lucky (twice)!
With all this talk about the new Bachmann K4,(both good and bad), it got me to thinking about the old standby Trix model.
This has been around for what...40 years? I know the detail isn't up to par with more recent models, but it looks enough like a K4 to be passable (3 ft. rule!) I wish there was something I could do with the "valve gear" (yikes!), but both of mine run really well. Start up speed is very reasonable, they both run smooth and quiet, and are able to haul any amount I ask them to. With their simple open-framed motor and gearing, I think it's remarkable that this model has held up so well over the years. The only other N scale engines I have that are this old are...well, "crappy".
If there ever is an N Scale "Hall of Fame", I would suggest a spot for this engine, along side perhaps the Kato Mike and RS3.
