older kato F3/F7 frames

hi guys.
I have 2 sets of older Kato F3 ABA and an F7 ABA that i was hoping to modify an put DCC decoders.  I was unaware that the frames had changed and bought the TCS replacement decoders.  Obviously they won't work. I have done several Atlas older frame mods and TCS decoder installs, but this one has me stumped.  The whole frame is solid.  Do I mill it down and the isolate the board and wire it up??  Anyone done this mod?   Do i ditch the TCS replacements and Install the M1's decoders??   any help is appreciated

Yes, the older run Katos require hard wiring, and space milled out.
This is how I do mine:

Aztec Trains sells milled frames, and offers frame milling services if you are not comfortable doing it yourself.

I cut mine years ago for DN93 decoders. Could probably update the decoders and add some metal back in.
Basically, after space for teh decoder is cut out on top in the rear, you will need to cut some channels for the wires. Light wires can connect to the stock light board after cutting the trace.

ok that looks easy enough.
So the frames are isolated via the spacers  and the power is picked up from the light board in front once the traces are cut to isolate as well .  I guess the motor brushes are isolated with tape and thats pretty much it??
thanks
