The year is 2015 and one may still catch GP9's working road freights on CN on a fairly regular basis. Symboled as a local, train 516, this Toronto Mac Yard to Belleville, ON., train has 56 cars behind a pair of GP9RM's for it's 115 mile run with no work en route... not exactly a local. It's actually the local power for Belleville for the week, and instead of having train 372 ferry them out, they get put to work often on 516:

Yard Slug. Actually a Hump booster unit, built new in 1978, they usually run in pairs teamed with GP38-2 Switchers...

From what I have been told, Hooper was in charge of motive power for one of the pre CSX roads and he was well liked and respected by everyone he came in contact with.  So they named a locomotve after him.

He was President of L&N, and a senior VP of CSX, I believe the locomotive was named for him when he was still alive...
