So I was looking at the Micro-Trains website today and noticed they have pictures up of the SP SW1500.  Sorry if this is old news.

Handrails are not painted white, no big deal, but it is part of the look...Attention to detail...Atlas Master series has painted handrails, and this unit's MSRP is well into the Atlas Master price range.

Well, it's MTL.   No offense--they still make some good stuff--but attention to detail has never been their strength.   For every "SP light package" win you get, you're gonna have to deal with some things that didn't make the cut.   It's MTL.   And you just cannot fairly compare pricing to Atlas at this point...not sure how far back you have to go where that would be a level playing field but....long time.

I don't know enough about the SP's to talk details but I think they're great looking little switchers, and wish I had a real need for one.  Unfortunately my days of buying stuff solely based on the cool factor are over.

I guess I will paint the handrails and maybe most of the pickups to hide them.

Still think I did the right thing to pre-order one.  mmm hmm   :)

I preordered one also, just a few mins with a 00000 brush and some white paint!

You will learn to love them.

it is quite difficult to make pickups that are more effective.

better looking maybe...

I suggest flat black paint.

As a teenager I had the great pleasure of seeing a number of different SW1500s being used on the old Pacific Electric line through El Monte, Ca., so these do hold a place in my heart.  While I do not model Espee (nor do I model diesel at the present time) I still might just have to see about getting one of these beauties for myself just so I can hold it in my hand and remember days long since gone!!!  Likewise for any Southern units that MT might produce, which turned out to be another place where up close and personal was common once I made the move to the right coast.
