Although it would be nice if they would use the chassis for something like a Niagara, I don't really expect it. Kato doesn't have a history of reusing old components. They did do it when working for Atlas or Concor, but not under their own brand name. The chassis of both the Gs4 and the Mikado have never been used for another model. I can understand about the GS4 as the dimensions are quite specific, but that is not the case for the Mikado chassis. Especially the mikado chassis could have been used for several much needed locomotives.

The big problem here is that only the 3rd drive axle is driven by the motor.  So the front engine would have to be a freewheeling dummy.   But, OTOH, the fact that the forward 2 drivers are equalized as a pair might make the 4-4-4-4 a doable model.

I do not know much about crossheads, valve gear, etc., so I have a question for those of you who have that knowledge.

So, we have the KATO FEF-3, right, well is the mechanism made up of "close enough" parts to morph into an ATS 3751. or 2926 that is being rebuilt in Albuquerque? ? If so, I best get my paws on another FEF. Oh Jason.

I will be pulling out the molds for the Niagara and Northern Pacific A-4.  These engine should adapt very well to the FEF.

No, that would be a 4+4+4+4. What you've actually got is a -8.
