Question about Atlas N Freight Trucks
« on: October 11, 2014, 03:46:51 PM »

I have many Atlas 70 ton trucks, but I also have 5 pairs of Atlas trucks (taken from Athearn NACC box cars) that look almost the same. The difference I can see is the Atlas 70 ton trucks have 3 springs, while the other Atlas trucks have only 2 springs.

What kind of trucks are the Atlas trucks with 2 springs? Anyone?

Sorry, but I don't have a digital camera that will allow me to shoot close-ups.

Hmm... I have some
trucks with 1 spring...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Thanks!
The Athearn truck in the first link definitely looks like the ones I have. I was confused at first and thought it was an Atlas truck, because it had Accumate couplers instead of Athearn's McHenry couplers. Live and learn.

Hmm... how long will it
be before Kiz puts 'em
up for sale...?

one of those examples when I ask myself, "if it were not for spookshow?!"
what an excellent resource here and for modeling!

yes, the couplers are confusing, especially in my mind. I ended up with packages of several different brands spilling out completely into a box
and now I am not sure which is which without looking it up.

That was the beginning of Mark's truck identification website.  Daniel, I and many others contributed photos and info.  I agree that it is a very useful site (and not just for the trucks).

Haha that project... ugh...

This was supposed to be an article for N-Scale. I put in over 100 hours collecting, documenting and shooting the trucks. Then... no interest. I posted here, but felt it needed a more permanent home so I contacted Mark.

I shot everything with a blue background. Mark found more samples and shot those and the project got a life of its own.

We really do need to run an update though. I think Atlas, BLI and a few others have made new trucks. I also have to figure out the whole BLMA/Trainworx/ExactRail tooling as all three companies have very similar trucks and I don't know if the tooling is shared, copied etc.

Dan, I've been adding new trucks as I become aware of them. If there are any that I've missed, do please let me know.

Cheers,
