Newest MTL tank car

A lot of double and triple hits were required to get these decorated.  Most don't appreciate the difficulty in getting those reflectors on a curved surface and matched after 3 or four hits.  The car is pretty old as well...in dog years I guess...I know it was being produced before I joined MTL 14 years ago.  It's an expensive car to manufacture and assemble.

For 99% of the folks out there that buy this -- they will either leave it in the case, put it in a case, or run it as is ..  I'm getting less of a proto freak as I get closer to the Koester factor as well ..

I do have a concern with the price .. but most will note several passes of color was needed ..

My GN car is 12 years old, according to the copyright date on the label.  And I can just imagine the fun trying to properly align multiple colors on a curved surface...

Looks like a good candidate for some of the cars we get through Springs.  I may have to pick one up (I've started collecting some current day rolling stock for my son(s)).



I wonder how much more the price will be when they have to print the road number on the top too.

I think Athearn already is printing reporting marks on top of the tanks.

Bryan:  No, new BLMA trucks won't lower the MT car enough - I tried that.  It's actually easier to use the Atlas trucks, because they allow the entire circular mounting boss to be removed.  With the BLMA one would have to carefully remove just enough of it, while with the Atlas there's no measuring needed.

On the other hand, on my MDC conversions, I used the BLMA trucks and some filing, because it would have been too difficult to remove enough material to use Atlas trucks.
