Beats me...


It was among my Reading images but I can't swear to its origins. It looks to be a VERY old Baldwin swing beam (the connecting rods are hinged) 0-8-0 with "enhancements". While the engine was probably built in the 1830's or so the photo was probably taken after the Civil War. God only knows what the "tender" is supposed to be. Looks like a spare boiler. Maybe it's a steam heated tank car  :)

   maybe the loco was an early Oil Burner ?
   the tender may have been heated to keep the Oil Sludge flowing ?
