Brass diesel handrail stansions needed in N .

OK , this is a part , a part of the misery of bash-dom .

What I would like is PB or brass stanchions so PB or brass handrails could be soldered to them . The problem I see is the pins that would be the sill attaching points , weather straight down or perpendicular are an after thought in the PB ones and flat as a runned over rat on the etched ones . What are the best ones you use ?

The Gold Medal ones work pretty well for me.

I now make my own, with the stanchions etched as part of the sidesill.   This is inherently loco-specific, but it sure saves a lot of work, and everything goes together nice and square.   Here are some WIP pics:

How does a person obtain a set of those beautiful stanchions?

I would be all over a set of those stanchions.

Not so much in Dash-9 flavor, but I'd buy some to support the effort to make them in 'better' locos like MACs, ACes, and EVOs.

These are a WIP, but I am working on a next revision with some tweaks, including the 'wide' pilot stanchions for earlier versions of the Dash9  (like BNSF 600-699 and 960-1123).   If these turn out well enough, it would not be hard to go from this to other GEs like the AC44s and ES44s.

This still takes some careful effort to form the wires and solder everything, but definitely it is easier than doing individual stanchions, and so far I have been able to avoid the little 'blobs' of solder that I would usually get when using the GMMs.  I'm finding that, since I want wire grabirons too, I am probably going to end up stripping and repainting most projects like this.

Beautiful work.  I would be happy to be a beta tester for any of your experiments or to help with the artwork for ES44 or related units.

I absolutely LOVE the Gold Medal sets.  The 3D relief is great.  And you can solder to them.

I only wish (please please please) that the mounting pins were longer.
