Santa Fe Steam Turbine

I ran across this on E-Bay. It's a model of a experimental AT&SF 4-6-6-4 locomotive...


Any one know anything about the real thing? Any photos?

To my knowledge, this is a total fantasy. There may have been something in preliminary study that could have made it as far as "artist's concept" sketches, but anything serious likely wasn't in a rod-coupled configuration, more along the lines of the C&O, N&W and UP steam turbine-electrics. IMO the story with the eBay listing is a fabrication, or a creative paraphrase at best.

I'd like to be proven wrong, however.

There is truth to the tale of the santa fe researching a turbine. It was rendered as a 2-D-D-2 design. It was to use the centipede frame and have an auxiliary fuel and water tender. I believe he has the turbine and another santa fe project mixed up. They also were looking into a cabforward duplex 6-4-4-4 steam locomotive.
As you can see there is truth but he's mixed 2 different things together

On a side note, the santa fe probably said,  "we don't need that worthless pennsy junk.*

  Santa Fe did research a Gas Turbine with Westinghouse and Baldwin.
  the idea was to use the Demo Centipede frame,but this didn't get built.
  Westinghouse-Baldwin then came up with the "Blue Goose" gas tubine on
  rigidly attached B-B-B-B trucks,it didn't sell and was scrapped by 1955 or so.
  ifo in a Train Shed Reprint of Railway Mechanical Engineer.
  Allis Charmers also tried to get in on Turbines about 1948,again info in a
  Train Shed reprint of RME.
  Alco-GE did build 1 Demo Tubine used on U.P.,#-50,and 10 Production Turbines
  for U.P.
  GE built the remaining 45 Turbines for U.P.
    interesting Locos.
