Passenger Cars Listed in ORER?

Are passenger cars listed in the Official Railway Equipment Register? And if so, would express reefers and box cars be listed there, too?

Nope.  It's likely that there must be some other publication that contained that info though.

Express reefers and boxcars probably would IF they were also used in freight trains.  If they were strictly passenger service, no.

I think at one time, when the RR's had passenger service, there was a publication for that equipment. I recall seeing it once. While the Register for freight is yellow, this was white and green.  It was interesting in that it contained info as to reimbursement for equipment moving on foreign lines (per mile charges). One memory I have is there was a different reimbursement for cars moving under electric wires.

Thanks everyone, for the info. The reason I asked the question is because I'm going to model 1971, the year Amtrak started, and which a few railroads decided not to join up, such as Southern, my favorite road. I was hoping I could find out something about the cars Southern used, since I'm not interested in Amtrak.

The ORER listed passenger cars into the mid '30's and then stopped.  I have heard in off-handed ways that they split out passenger cars then.  I have looked at dealers at shows for years, and if they did publish separate volumes for passenger equipment, they must be rarer than hen's teeth, I have never found any.

There probably weren't many copies printed.  Every station that handled freight could use the ORER, but it's likely that the only place that needed the passenger car data was major passenger stations.  After all, it's unlikely that a one-railroad town would have to bill for foreign road passenger cars.  They'd just go through in the trains.
