True dat.  Here is the I-40 crossing of Canyon Diablo, a few miles south of the rail crossing:



Does BNSF observe high wind warnings along the Transcon?  On Tehachapi it's not uncommon for certain types of trains to be "grounded" due to wind, especially stack trains with empty containers.

Look on the positive, didn't have to worry about stepping on a snake.

Been there done that and they don't bother me. Now SCORPIONS are a completely different matter !!!!!!

Gary, looks like someone put a pic of Padre Canyon up as Canyon Diablo. Padre Canyon crosses I-40 at exit 219 and Canyon Diablo is at exit 230

You hit an interesting point here too. NO ONE talks about Canyon Diablo's little brother at Padre Canyon. This bridge is about 1/3 the size of CD and pictures have not been published of it yet.

Thanks Bob - I stand corrected.  This was the photo in the Wikipedia article...  In any case, it does illustrate Ed's point quite nicely.

That's one of the bad paint jobs done over 12 years ago. Surprised it's still running & it still hasn't been swooshed. LOL.

They probably built the footings that way as a cheap way of cutting flood waters.  Rather than try to build a five-sided pier, just turn the square one.

When I was there, a gondola cover had been blown quite far from the bridge!

I noticed that the gondola cover shows up on the goggle earth image of the bridge also.  Must have been there awhile.
