Boiler/power house size for scratchbuild or kitbash

I want to add a small boiler house to a building about the size of the Atlas Middlesex Mfg building. It would represent a textile mill's changing over to coal-fired steam from waterwheel power.  I know this boilerhouse wouldn't be as big as Walthers Northern Power Co, but I'm not certain how big it should be. Some factory kits have small windowless boiler rooms as separate structures (Model Power, the old Atlas factory), so is that the norm? I'm thinking of using the sandhouse from the Walther Sand Tower complex by cutting off the peaked ends and adding a flatroof and tall smokestack.

Currently working on a model based around the dimensions found in the Santa Fe System Stds Vol3.
These boiler (not power houses) houses were mainly cast concrete structures with outer wall doors at the front and rear of each boiler in the 2 boiler house plan. The building was 29'6" long by 24' wide. The side walls had two windows on one side and a single window and door on the other side. The concrete floor had a 2 foot pit with sloping sides for each boiler. The outlines of the boilers show them about 19' long, 4'6" dia boiler tube, 5' wide firebox.
A power house included the boiler area, plus the power generation machinery area. The buildings were also cast concrete, but with a greater window area. I'm working from a pair of terrible photos to build a model of the 4 boiler power house that was behind the Slaton, Texas roundhouse. Hope this provides some help.

But yours is more appropriate in size and design for a coal boiler while Robert's would be suitable only for natural gas or oil.  Add a conveyor to the upper ⅓ height of one side, add a coal pit with unloading trestle and fence it in you would have a great coal boiler room.  You could even add a single story pipe shop next to it (connected in line with the back wall) with a small protruding bathroom off the front of that.  I oughta know... I worked in one for 7 years, firing two coal and one gas/oil boiler.
