About 15 of the rebuilt former SOO SD60's have been brought out of storage and placed back in service., presumably for the grain rush. A few of the units stored in Montreal have been shipped west on train 119, as with the 6222 pictured here, and the 6251 west west the previous day on a 119. Former 2010 Olympic unit is just an added bonus:

My ride back on the Carolinian from a conference in Raleigh on Monday:



On the way down Friday, CSX had issues north of Richmond and we ended up riding through Acca Yard because the northbound Carolinian needed to get into the station. Grabbed this quick shot of Conrail gon in the middle of the yard:



And then exiting the yard:



I need to remember to have my phone on camera mode during these trips. Passed a Family Lines/L&N transfer caboose somewhere in NC on the way home also,

None of these photos are going to win any awards, but I'll post them anyway because they may be of interest. I took the Pennsylvanian from Pittsburgh to Tyrone and back over the weekend. The highlight of the trip was, as always, the Juniata shops (I guess there's a famous curve along there somewhere, too.)

There's not a lot to be seen from the train because NS keeps a long line of locos in various states of repair on that side of the shops, but I did get a few pictures that I thought were worthwhile, even if they were shot with a cellphone from a moving train.

First, a row of SOO locos, far enough away to not get too much motion blur (unlike my photo of NS 2416, which is too blurry to post):


And, off in the distance, a couple passenger cars, including what looks like it might be a PRR car that's seen better days:


And finally, one of several rows of ex-Conrail Trailvans, apparently relegated to storage duty:

Amtrak's Exhibit Train is in Gettysburg, PA Sept 28-29, from 10am - 4pm both days.  I seen red marker lights from the tail of the train sitting at the Gettysburg station so I had to run down and see what was sitting there.  The special veterans unit is included with this train.



Unfortunately, it's not the lead unit right now.

I was able to make it into town this evening after the exhibit train closed up shop. I shot a video as it left the station, and again as it crossed the Biglerville Rd north of Gettysburg. They didn't turn the consist around, so FP40 #406 is leading, with P42 #42 Veterans Unit in trailing position.

I`m living in Germany this fall and ride the trams and trains daily.  It is almost too much for a train fan.  Here is a gem from Berlin, the `Rock n`Roll Train`.  It was a beautiful day for the marathon.



I was in northern Sweden last week and had some occasions to view the LKAB line from Kiruna to Narvik.  This is an iron ore line that was built about 100 years ago to service the rich mine and an ice free port on the Norwegian coast.  It is the northernmost rail line in Europe at about 68 degrees latitude.   The line sees a few passenger and container trains each day, and an ore train about every hour.  Standing next to the tracks, it is shocking how quiet the trains are, they almost `sing`as they glide by.  It is not just the electric locos, the freight cars and track is clearly well maintained.

The weather was murky with winter coming but here are few shots.
