If only they had equipped the Meatballs with the steel window-screens that most of the E60CPs got, this might have not even been an issue. Or, the engineer would have just been pelted with some sliced-turkey...

Reminds me of the airline industry using them to test windshields for shatter resistance. United wanted to be sure they couldn't enter the cockpit on take off and successfully tested their planes. Delta, however, kept shattering the glass on every test. When they called for advice, the United worker said, "You probably should thaw the bird before the test."

I wonder if our locomotives would do any better than the British against a nuclear waste container?

Both, probably, although I've never heard the cab of an electric locomotive called the "engine compartment".
