H&S- MicroTrains is going to kill me this month

I have lived in various parts of the southeast my whole life (51).

At one point I lived near Dothan Alabama.  When driving around "the circle" (main perimeter road), on the west wise (I think), there was almost always a switcher parked at a lumber company.

That was the Harford & Slocomb Railroad, a wonderful little shortline.

I recently acquired a fantastic brass S-1 switcher and plan to repaint it into H&S as this:

Many many years ago, MicroTrains made an SSI Rail  H&S car.

They go for WAY over my budget.   Well, this month, they are releasing a 3 pack of weathered, graffiti, re-stenciled H&S cars.  One is Valdosta Southern - another place I used to live near.

Indeed, I had to order these even though my layout is an Oregon shortline. I expect these will sell out quickly.

I was stationed at Ft Rucker for 5 years from 01-06, lived in Daleville most of that time.

I'd like to see Atlas do sets like this...    I am not a big fan of the MTL 50' boxcar....   

I am also not sold on the MTL execution - although I am sure it is super high quality.  Most grafitti on boxcars is down towards the bottom and I have rarely if ever seen the COTS label covered.   

Sorry to be so nitpicky, as the HS cars have always been a favorite from back in CR days when you would see tons of them up in NJ....

I would like to see Atlas, FVM, WoT, Trainworx, et al  ALL take notice.   Athearn has done some weathering/fading, and even Atlas and Trainworx (and gasp...even Walthers!!!) have faded a few things...very cool.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the MTL boxcars either, but I've been buying some of the weathered cars just because I figure I'm gonna have a least some boxcars (and other rolling stock) that isn't gonna be perfect and these are great cars to help speed up the process of getting weathering to be the "norm" on my layout versus the exception.   And for the most part the MTL cars look pretty good!   I'll admit some look a bit garish, and I haven't bought ALL of them, and I usually split the mulit-packs with Rossford Yard...end result being they don't overpower my roster but create a nice mix.   I generally see the potential for toning down the garish and making them another bit of randomness in my pretty mundane modern schemed railroad of logo-less freight cars.  So, I'll support Joe and MTL for now since I do appreciate the effort.

I will say, not sure what you mean by MTL's graffiti not being toward the bottom.   All I have and all the photos I've seen have consistently been on the bottom edge or else at least an appropriately low stance.   And COTS, well that one is not cut-and-dried...you can't dictate when graffiti happens and ensure it's fixed immediately.   But yeah, that is one of the "can't be every car" kinda deals.

Paul used to tease me every couple of years when I would call Atlas and ask them (back then) to change their roladex on me.   Paul said my card was in pencil.

Yes,  and higher education.

Lived in or near Mobile, AL, Lexington KY, Pensacola, Milton, Gulf Breeze and Chipley FL, Skipperville AL (near Dothan), Montgomery, Baxley GA (near Waycross and Valdosta), and Richmond & Virginia Beach VA.

And trains were all a part of it.   Rice Yard (Waycross), Acca yard (Richmond), Montgomery and Mobile are good places.
And then the Bay Line and the Hartford & Slocomb.

Been a good ride so far.  Ohhh-  and I drove up and photographed the EAR- Eastern Alabama Railway near Talladega.  I think it's called something else now.
