Calling all Canucks! MLW help needed!

OK guys, I am venturing into unfamiliar territory here.  I wanted to paint some of the GVT/DL motive power and don't know what is available.  I know some of you guys have done some really impressive stuff with resin bodies and conversion kits.  I am looking to do the M636, M420 and M630 (is there such a thing).  What is available?  I did use the search function and decided a thread starting with the heading "Calling all Canucks" was much more fun.

By the way, this is all Bryan Bussey's fault for putting out that ESM Keyser Valley Caboose.  The 882 sits in GVT paint and is regularly pulled around by these engines.  So, being that I model Scranton...

M420 by Briggs models. Resin shell with trucks and fuel tanks, a really nice kit.

M630 by Briggs as well (available through Central Hobbies in Vancouver, BC). You need to order the Dofasco truck separately, and with them this will produce an accurate M630. M&E ALCO turned on into an M636, iirc.

I wonder how long it will be mIke before some one attempts the M640 using the kit and some hard work and "MacGyvering"............. ?

I bet if someone does, it'll be Steve (M&E ALCO). He already did an HR616, so the M640 would be up his alley. I've no interest in an M640 personally... to rare to worry about and the prototype as somewhat of a shelf queen.

The GVT/DL operates a fair number of former BCR locomotives so give me a shout if you have any questions.  Steve Adair has done an M-636 from the Briggs M-630 kit.  He lives in New Zealand but hte work is documented somewhere here on Railwire.

The M-636 I built, that Loch4244 and Tim mentioned, is on the D-L roster as their 3643.  Their numbering system is based on hp and the last digits of the original road number, so the 3643 was originally CP Rail 4743. 

I have several photos of the unpainted 4743 if you want to see them.  It does require an additional Briggs radiator as the M-636 has a 4 core radiator verses the 3 core on the M-630.  PM me if you want the photos or check out my Rail Images photos.

You would have no issues building any of the Briggs kits, I particularly like the M-420.  It's a relatively short drive for you to go and see the D-L fleet.  Alco-MLW heaven.  I hope to see them next year, and maybe catch up with you at the same time.

Guys, great stuff.  I am definitely going the big 6 axle route.  I get up to Scranton a few times a month so there is plenty of material to work with,  If you need any photos of anything up there let me know and I can supply it!  Great looking 4743 steve!

But MAN what a prototype... especially after it's A-1-A AC motor rebuild in the 80s

It was unique, no doubt. And if you are me, very elusive. I grew up not more than a few miles from Agincourt Yard in Scarborough (Toronto), and spend more than a few hours watching the show. That show included every single MLW 6-axle operating in the late 1980's on CP save two... 4744 and 8921! Pretty sure the M640 was stuck in Mtl by then on the Hochelaga transfers, along with the 8921. Yeah, never saw the Empress of Agincourt (that I recall, before a certain age I'd not have known what I was looking at)

I, too, never saw the M640 but did see the Empress on two occasions..... She was a unique beastie !
