The funny thing is, and you probably know this, that SP spawned Sprint, was bought up buy Phil Anschutz - who sold it to the UP and then invested heavily in Qwest.

Qwest of course is now part of CenturyLink, which is my local phone company.  This is the only phone company I know of that let it's wires lie on the side of the road for a month until a crew came to put them back up (after 2011 surprise snowstorm).  The next day a branch fell down and caught fire and ignited the CL and Comcast lines.  Comcast had 10 trucks out within an hour including two fiber optic cable splicing crews.  CL patched the cable and propped them up on bushes for another month before re-hanging them.

I never thought I would get to the point of just dropping POTS phone service, but I am getting closer by the day.

I've been a Qwest shareholder for years, a largely losing proposition.

Southern Pacific Railroad INternal Telecommunications is what I've always heard Sprint stood for.

Looks like Sprint is due to be bought out by SoftBank, a Japanese telecom.
