In a year or so, railfanning in upstate NY will have a different variety of cars to watch. My former employer would receive magnetite ore from the NL mine at Tahawus in gons.

Interesting. The line was opened in WWII to access ilminite (titanium ore). The line hosted the first D&H diesels (S-2's). Thanks for posting this.

I haven't yet ridden the S&NC, but will have to check it out when I head back to school. I wonder what they'll end up using to power the freight trains. As it stands right now they have a B39, 2 BL2s, 2 E8s, and 2 Alco switchers...
