Southern Crescent Consist in 1971?

I read that Southern preferred not to join Amtrak when it was formed in 1971, instead maintaining the Southern Crescent using newly painted green (from black) E8s. Does anyone know what types of cars were in the consist? Pictures would be nice.

Thanks.

Hmm... I'm guessing
passenger cars...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

This is from the 1973 timetable (which is too light to scan).  Don't think there were any changes from 1971.

Parlor Car - Atlanta - New Orleans
Reclining Seat Coach - Washington - Birmingham
Reclining Seat Coach - Washngton - New Orleans
Reclining Seat Coach - Washington - Atlanta
Reclining Seat Coach - New York Citty - New Orleans
Reclining Seat Coach - New York City - Birmingham
  Sleeping Cars
Wash - Atlanta - DR, MR, Bft-Lge
Wash - Atlanta - 10-6
New York - Birmingham - 10-6
New York - New Orleans - 10-6
Dining Car - Washington - Atlanta
                    Atlanta - New Orleans
Tavern Lounge Car - Wash - Atlanta

This train was all streamlined usually with 4 E units up front.

Wow, that's interesting. Thanks.

Hmm... couldn't they
work a banana car into
the consist...?

Looks like I will actually be able to run some non-Amtrak passenger trains on my layout (when it gets built).

Hmm... whichever century
that may be...

Don't know what area of the Southern your doing but don't forget the lesser trains.  Here's one (forget which train) in Alexandria, VA with one FP and a coach.  This train also picked up and dropped off trailer flats in Alexandria Va.

Fooled around with the scanner and here is the timetable that might be of interest.  Shows all Southern passenger trains during that time period.
