Vintage.  I didn't realize this line lasted so long:

When did they finally quit?

Not too long after that picture was taken as #50 went to the B&O museum in 1986

Gary, did you find this on Facebook? This photo just came up on the Cap and Met Sub page.

They also had an SW9, #87, that came on to the railroad in 1987 as I learned on FB. It may still be in its Baltimore and Annapolis paint on the Carolina Southern (that's what their web page shows).

And then the Light rail came in the mid 1990s. And freight operations on that part of the line ceased to my knowledge ( I was a teenager at that point). Corrections welcome!

Don't count on that Carolina Southern stuff lasting too much longer.  I have heard rumours that a scrapper is looking at the lot.

Found it on RailPics, as per the link.  The Wikipedia page for the B&A (see David's link above) says operations ceased in the early '80s and that light rail service started in 1993.  I was surprised it even survived into the '80s, let alone 1985 with a pretty natty looking 70-tonner.

Where were those boxcars going in 1985?!

Does anyone model this line?  Are there track and industry diagrams anywhere?

I only ask because this exact picture was posted on the same day on one of the threads on FB, the CSX Cap and Met Sub. Way too coincidental for me.

I used to live there! When MTA converted the for Light-rail service, they had what looked like a modified 44T shuffling 50ft cars out of Sherwin Williams. Pretty neat it was literally in my backyard.

they still have it, at the glen burnie shops...  you can see it off of 97 when you pass by it... (see it everyday on my commute)...

they keep it there in case they have a power outage and need to go grab cars....

i have only ever seen it used once... when an ice storm knocked out power and some poor souls were trapped on the flyover there at M&T Bank Stadium going toward the Big Burner....  in a snow storm...

anyway...  that's all i think it is used for...
