GN/WFE Reefer help

I don't have a GN equipment color guide that covers the GN/WFE reefers. Can anyone comment on how well the Intermountain R-40-23 reefers (http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Intermountain-N-Reefer-p/imr-65505-14.htm?CartID=2) match the series 68000 GN/WFE cars. I'm confident these cars (and their wooden counterparts) were still roaming the rails in this scheme the late 60s and am tempted to buy some but don't want to waste my money if they're total foobs.

They are quite close.  I'd make sure to get one with better grabs than the one pictured.

The orange looking sides are strange for a WFEX/FGEX car (are they really orange???) since they typically used yellow but the lettering looks good.  Here are a couple of links to prototype cars...

So it looks like the number of side panels and door height are the primary differences. I have to give this some thought, considering the IMRC cars are a somewhat older lettering scheme too.

I have heard but have no reference to point you to that the WFEX/FGEX cars were closer to ATSF reefers.  Just wish I could remember where I read that.

Intermountain keeps numbering these for #68000-683999, which were built by ACF, and were welded panel cars, like in the photos above. The correct numbers for the PCF built cars, should be #68400-68649. The intermountain cars are actually accurate for this number series, with the exception, that they should have a diagonal panel roof. A lot of these were renumbered into the WFBX series for use as potato reefers, in later years. Check for photos of the WFBX cars and you will find some that match the IM reefers.
