Just thought I'd pass along a sale that I stumbled upon over at Lombard Hobbies in Illinois.  Lots of Atlas engines marked down to $45 each.

No affiliation, but I snagged the last Conrail SD60M's they had at that price...  ;)

"Nice prices" is right. It's not just locos - Athearn coal gons are $7/ea in the five-packs. If I were doing "modern" that's a helluva deal.

Not familiar with them - whenever I'm up there (I'm near STL, but my real office is in Schaumburg), I go to Des Plaines Hobbies. Those prices are insane, and have got to be near dealer cost. I can't help but wonder if they're clearing things out to close down.

The WM VO1000s are mighty tempting... but I'll have to sell a few more hopper cars to break even on that one before I start piling up more motive power.

They are at Trainfest in Milwaukee every November with a huge display blowing out prices.  I've picked up engines and gotten great deals on structure kits also.

LOL.  Actually "It's not how you sell, it's how you buy."  Lombard often picks up overruns and excess inventory and passes the savings along to you!

That is probably very close to the truth.  I remember stopping in their store back in the early 2000's (can't believe I just said that...) and they were well stocked with crazy low prices, even back then.  From what I'm gathering intel wise, they just recently revamped and opened their online store, with I believe the same company that runs M.B. Kleins cart system (Volusion?).  Looked awfully familiar when I checked out.

I've had no issues and I even got a note from the shipping guy asking me to send him an email to let him know how well the package survived the trip overseas.

Oh, and I picked up a bunch of the Athearn coalporters too...I missed those earlier...  :o
