Simple Flasher for a NJ Internations crossing

I have 2 NJ International over the road crossings and I want to wire them up so they can simple flash and that I can manually turn off and on.  The reason for this is that they are on the end of a module and I do not have room for the detection circuits at this time.  I was thinking of NJ Internationals flasher module, but it looks like it out of stock.  Do you have any advice what to use and how to wire it?  Is there a why to use the Flash Master manually?  I am no expert on this, and haven't wired one of these up before.  Thanks, Matt

This module reproduces alternating flashes (with increasing and decreasing brightness curves) as seen in the older incandescent lamp driven type crossbucks used at grade crossings. Will drive two pairs of series-wired red LEDs without additional external circuitry.

Has anyone ever tried adding surface mount nanos to the gates in addition to the crossbucks? wire the middle one to one side, and the inside & outside to the other???

Yes, I have. I don't have a vid of it working, but I have an image:



I used a tortoise switch machine (on low voltage to run slower) to move the arm and also to activate the flasher circuit. The lights on real flashers start flashing before the arm is lowered, and keep going until the arm is fully raised.

Gates are usually lit with the light on the end constant on, and the two (or four) inner lights alternate.

I've also seen some where they alternate between the center lamp and the outer two.

Me, too... but I think that's an older standard. The FRA crossing appliance rules have become pretty specific about lighting behavior.
