Sound Dummy

I had a box of parts from Bob, basically everything but the frame for a Life Like C Liner.  He gave me another A-B set to put decoders in, so I salvaged the parts, whipped up a frame, and created a dummy B unit to carry a sound board.

It's prewired, and ready to accept the decoder and speaker as soon as they arrive.  I fabbed the frame out of sheet styrene, used some phosphor bronze strip I gleaned from an old telephone to make the contact strips, and the weights came from the scrap box.

I took the tower gears out of the trucks, and it rolls as effortlessly as a brand new Micro Trains car...

It's currently being test driven on the layout with excellent results.

the problem i had with mine (did somethign similar) was the need for a capacitor on the MRC 1st gen sound decoders based on the unreliable power pickup (dirty wheels/track/bouncedy bounce of the rails)...

i eventually sold it b/c i got tired of hearing the rest all the time...

alas... a capacitor may have solved my problems...

anyway...

lesson learned.. for what it is worth

Would this one be a good fit?  Others have standard EMD sounds and Maybe with this one I can tweat it to sound somewhat like an FM.

Looks like it should work.  You could probably get a bigger speaker.  There's plenty of room in there...

Check to make sure the capacitor comes with it.  I'm pretty sure it does.
