Ed, I am very interested in doing a desert southwest theme next.  If you can provide me a satisfactory track plan that will fit within my 4x10 parameters, I'll start building the bench work tonight.   

Seriously, I only have space for one project at a time, so my plan is to enjoy the Marias Pass, start brainstorming the next project, and sometime in the future I'll move forward with construction.  But right now I'm in no hurry.

What happens to the 4x10 project layouts once your done or want to start with a new one? Does the previous one(s) go into some kind of storage, raffled off? Just wondering,

BTW did you check out the December 2011 MR?   They showed HO scale Creamery Junction trackplan which looks like it could be readily adapted to the 4x10 N scale format.  Another interesting feature is that it has two levels with an interconnecting helix,  so you get twice the railroad in the same space.

I have been very fortunate to find good homes for all of my previous layouts, and still stay in touch with the current owners.  It also helps me fund the new project and most of the other purchasing that I do to satisfy my addiction. 

Thanks for the ideas guys on the next layout.  I do like the Salt Lake Route series and when it was published, the track configuration really validated my Orin Line design, as I had completed that layout before the SLR began.  Bending those mainlines as much as possible in the given space really helps to minimize the Daytona 500 theme.

I also found the double deck HO trackplan in the Dec 2012 MR very interesting as well.  I'm not sure I would want to build a helix into a portable layout, but I have been looking for a way to add staging into my current designs, and the article did give me some ideas.

Anyway, the NSR article series will be running awhile, so there will be plenty of Marias Pass to go around while I work on a new design.
