So there were a few chores that had to be done this weekend;
Paint the hallway and kitchen
Since we got the painting done quicker than we thought we would, gave me some time to start moving some rock work on the garden layout in the back yard. I've taken a long time to get started on this because something kept keeping me from digging and moving stuff and laying track; that time gave me an idea that I think is going to work really well.
We have a 70ft Oak tree in the back yard about 8 feet from the deck. With some of the roots coming out of the ground around it, there is no use laying any type of sod around the tree. Also, about ten feet from the oak tree is an electrical pole guidewire, so what I've come up with is devising a garden border that takes the tree and the guide wire out of the actual yard, and will be in the garden. Then the garden will run northeast towards the back corner of our yard and that will give me a possible garden railroad that will be around 150-200ft of track.
This also gives us plenty of open lawned yard (future, I'll have to prepare the soil and lay new sod) for kids, grandkids, and the dogs to run around in. An added bonus to this is the end of the garden will butt up against the deck/patio area and the corner of our house. This will allow me to extend a staging area along the back wall of our bedroom outside that will give me about a 24ft section to build an elevated, covered staging area to build trains for the garden layout.
I moved some rock work around to start forming in the staging area, and shoveled some gravel I had piled up in the back yard into the staging area. The staging area itself will be built out of scrap decking when we re-do the deck and install a slate patio this fall.
