Conrail X72 boxcars

Walthers has just anounced a new run of their HO X72 in several early Conrail schemes for HO. Lets hope we get these in N as well.

I haven't seen anything on these, and I'm looking at the newest flyer. Did they annouce any PC or a WP cars?

It's probably less expensive in the long run to find old ones on the secondary market and repaint them.

X2 for HO. Same tooling is used on the trainset cars. I have an RF&P and a BAR one that I bought for less than 2 bucks each. IDK how likely a PC or CR car is to appear on the BN, but a WP car probably would.

Great to know what these Lifelike cars were based on! I've got a few (cuz they were CHEAP!). ;D

With almost 1200 cars total, the PC and CR cars most certainly would have shown up on the BN.  They were very common cars used by online shippers on Penn Central and Conrail.  Many undoubtedly went to western consignees.  Thanks.

I'm surprised this digital photo existed, since the set was released before there was general Internet use.  Still looking for an online pic of the Bev-Bel cars, but they were released before the NHD cars so it will be tough.

UPDATE:  The Bev-Bel item numbers for their Life-Like limited-run PC and CR X72 boxcars were #10002 and #10001 respectively.  They described the product as a "50' Evans Single-Door Boxcar".  No pic of the CR car, but here is the PC version:



As you can see, you're better off painting/decaling the models.  There was a good PC X72 weathering article in the June 2001 issue of MR.

The second url has links to Railmodel Journal articles on the prototypes. Apparently these cars were delivered new to the PC, WP, and CN.

Thanks for the correction. After reading the RMJ article it appears that PC is the only road that received these new. I will probably do a couple of these as built since I have them.
