Jason, Mr. Freight Car, are you going soft, or just soft because it's a passenger car?
I may get an N&W to run with my Bachmann 611 J. All the photos I have of NS excursions with this type of baggage car show the doors open. Are the doors pictured on the WofT site accurate for 1980's service? The only photo I can find offhand of a prototype that shows the doors closed is this one from 1966: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw-baggage.jpg
My lack of passenger car knowledge is only rivaled by modern diesels. My 'stand in' comment, however, has only to do with the number series. The ZR certainly had Q baggage-express heavyweights but the little info that's out there shows a different number series being more common. Besides that, compared to the RI RPO that was rebuilt from a parlor car, and the 76 seat coach that was once part of an articulated set, this car only need to be close to make me happy. If you like that, wait until my proposal to chop this car down to 60' for the CGW (one of the doors is a 1' too wide ).Jason
LOL. Passenger cars don't get no love.
Actually the doors in the artwork seem an odd choice. Will check my sources and report back.http://www.wheelsotime.com/storage/thumbnails/7464635-8771011-thumbnail.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1298585086962In revenue service, these cars did not get top and bottom stripes like coaches and whatnot. But, in company service after Amtrak N&W started adding full striping to all of the "red" cars, so I would guess in excursion service it had top and bottom stripes (?)
