Wye Frog Angle

Simple question.  The Atlas wyes are labeled 2.5 and 3.5.  How does that translate to the angle of the frog or the rate of diversion?

Eric,

I think the 2.5 wye is the equivalent of a standard #5 turnout and the 3.5 wye is equivalent to a standard #7 turnout.  The frog number is halved, because both legs diverge with a curve away from an imaginary centerline.

The formula is the same as a regular "number X" turnout--"X" is the distance the track moves forward for each unit distance of diversion.

However, with a wye, each leg of the wye accounts for half of the diversion. So a #2.5 wye is made up of a #5 left-hand diverging track and #5 right-hand diverging track. Similarly, the #3.5 is a #7 angle on each side.

It's possible to have non-equally diverting legs.  My Waterloo module will be getting a #10/#7 wye which will use a #8.5 frog.
